Commercial Solar Panel Installation
and Design
Good news! Now is an excellent time to consider solar for your business. The cost of solar has fallen significantly in the past five years, making it more affordable than ever before.
WHY SHOULD BUSINESSES GO SOLAR?
Businesses are going solar for a number of reasons, including
- lower operating expenses
- grow their revenues by differentiating from their competitors
- reduce tax liability through government credits and accelerated depreciation
- furthering sustainability goals
There are many reasons why a company might decide to go solar, but for many businesses, the main reason is financial. That’s understandable. The good news is that an investment in commercial solar power can provide a strong internal rate of return (IRR) and a favorable payback period due to all of the federal and local incentives including tax credits, depreciation, potential grants, and rebates that may be available.
The Business Case For Solar
1. HOW CAN SOLAR POWER HELP HEDGE RISING ENERGY COSTS?
Modern businesses are energy intensive. Think about your lighting, HVAC, production, computing. This energy usage translates into a large expenditure on energy. The good news is that it can be one of the biggest controllable expenses in your business.
Solar provides long-term price certainty, which reduces your exposure to energy market volatility. Think of it as a way to hedge a portion of your energy load at a stable rate for 20+ years, making it easier for you to effectively budget expenses each year and reinvest any savings back into your business.
2. FEDERAL TAX CREDIT
The new Inflation Reduction Act increased the Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) to 30% of the total cost of your solar panel system. This allows you to deduct it from your federal income tax. The ITC can be taken all at once or in increments over 20 years until the full amount is reached. Please keep in mind that solar folks are not accountants, so please consult your tax advisor regarding eligibility.
3. ACCELERATED DEPRECIATION
4. Additional Incentives
GRANTS AND LOANS FOR AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL BUSINESSES
Agricultural producing businesses, such as a ranch, or other small businesses located in rural areas, may qualify for the US Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program grant and loan program (REAP). Rural business owners can use these funds to help pay for the cost of installing solar panels on their facilities. This can further offset the total cost of your project.
Eligible businesses can receive a grant of up to 25% of the total project cost and/or a loan of up to 75% of the total project cost. A combined loan and grant may cover up to 75% of the total project cost.
5. Sustainability Goals
More and more companies are choosing solar power for their businesses, including Apple, Proctor & Gamble, and Toyota. Why? Because being environmentally responsible is not only a good PR move, but it’s also good for business. It’s not only a visible reminder to the community, your customers and employees of your commitment to sustainability it also a signals that your business is resilient and looking at creating long term value. By going solar you are also helping reshape our energy future by adding to the renewable mix in Texas
